The ratification of the CETA has been postponed

The ratification of the CETA has been postponed
Senato della Repubblica -Italy

The parliamentary ratification of the CETA has been postponed "to a time to be arranged", but most of the agreement is already operational provisionally

Palazzo Madama will delay the ratification of the economic-commercial treaty between the European Union and Canada scheduled for 26 September. The Senate group leaders' conference welcomed the request by the Italian Left to extend the terms of the ratification procedure. Therefore, one week after the provisional execution, which took place on 21 September, Italy did not complete the approval process and postponed the vote to a time to be arranged. Nonetheless, the failure to ratify the Treaty does not lead to a change in political intentions, positively oriented towards the agreement, nor does it reduce its effects, since 90% of the provisions are already applicable both in Europe and in Canada, as provided for by article 30.7 of the agreement itself.
