The Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) are now in force. These regulations require most food businesses to have a Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence to import, export or send food across provincial and territorial boundaries.
Coming into force of SFCR and the SFCR import licence
The Government of Canada's new Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) came into force on January 15, 2019 and require that food imported into Canada meets the same food safety outcomes and has been prepared with the same level of food safety controls as food prepared in Canada.
By consolidating 14 sets of existing food regulations into a single set of regulations, the SFCR improves consistency of rules across all types of foods, and between food businesses reduces administrative burden, and enables food businesses to be innovative through outcome-based provisions.
FSMA came into forse in Septmber 2016, this regulation require most food businesses registred FDA to be compliant with the FSMA seven pillars.
